Mexico implemented a national procedure for the detection, medical care, and guidance of women who are victims of physical and/or sexual violence in medical units of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). In alignment with the Official Mexican Standard NOM-046-SSA2-2005, national medical guidelines were issued to enable health professionals—particularly those in first-contact units—to identify and respond appropriately to cases of gender-based violence. These protocols aim to ensure that survivors receive comprehensive, timely, and sensitive care that addresses both physical and psychological consequences of violence, while also providing guidance on access to justice and protection services.
